The Shield Darters range is from the James river in Virginia up to the Susquehanna and Hudson.
Information about the Shield Darter
The Shield Darter (Percina Peltala) found along the east coast from Virginia to New York. The Denizens of the wild have observed three different specimens of shield darters two on the gunpowder river in Maryland the other in Octoraro Creek two of these specimens were caught using nets in a kick sane the first shield darter we had found was during a shock survey in the gunpowder. They were found in fast moving riffles in or around rocks. These Shield Darters are called shield darters because of there squired 6 - 7 blotches along there side. Another thing about the shield darter is how they can get a olive yellow color. Because of the lack of shield darters we have found we do not have much information on them.
The Shield Darters Status:
Although not officially threated they are really rare to find in Maryland.
